Keralas' Iqraa COVID hospital carves its own niche

Kozhikode: Kerala's Iqraa Hospital's activities in Covid fight is drawing statewide attention. Joining hands with the state government, Iqra has opened on its own a dedicated 100-bed Covid hospital at Eranhipalam, Calicut. Covid treatment is given here at free of cost.

Kozhikode District Iqraa-Thanal Covid hospital is a dedicated Covid hospital opened in government and private partnership. This is the first-of-this-kind hospital in the state, functioning under the supervision of the nodal officer in Kozhikode Medical college.

The facility of Iqraa is equipped with ventilators, monitors, ICU, HDU system and other modern medical machinery. All staff including doctors intensivist, nurses, paramedical staff, reception, housekeeping and others are provided at the expense of Iqraa.

The district administration is supplying the food needed for the staff and the patients. The Executive Director of Iqraa, Dr. PC Anwar, expressed satisfaction that the hospital, which charges the patients only nominally, could provide the laudable service with the support of voluntary organizations and benevolent individuals.

Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiative, Thanal Vadakara, Tata Trust Mumbai, Human Welfare Foundation, Delhi and other organisations are supporting Iqraa to provide treatment for the needy at a reasonable charge.

Charity Clinic, which enables the needy to get out-patientconsultation, and Mercy Clinic through which the patient can consult an expert doctor at low charges, subsidized dialysis centre, dialysis sponsorship programmes, de-addiction centre, paraplegia clinic, Early Intervention Centre and other facilities are functioning at the hospital which has nine branches across different districts.

Iqraa hospital also provides specialist doctors for the hospitals in four islands of Lakshadweep.
