COVID-19: Kerala records over 22,000 fresh cases

Kerala on Wednesday recorded 22,056 fresh covid cases and 131 more deaths due to COVID-19. With this, the infection caseload has increased to 33,27,301 and the death toll to 16,457. There are 1,49,534 active cases in the state. After conducting 1,96,902 samples, the TRP rate stands at a precarious 11.2 per cent.

Of the fresh cases identified, 100 are health workers, 120 came from outside the state, and 20,960 were infected via contact. However, in 876 cases, the source of contact could not be identified.

Thus far, 31,60,304 have recovered from the infection in the state. Malappuram is the worst affected with 3931 cases, followed by Thrissur with 3005, Kozhikode with 2400, Ernakulam with 2397, Palakkad with 1649, Kollam with 1462, Alappuzha with 1461, Kannur with 1179, Thiruvananthapuram with 1101 and Kottayam with 1067. Of the 4,46,211 under surveillance statewide, 4,19,098 are at home or institutional quarantine, and 27,113 are in hospitals.
