Thiruvananthapuram: All India Congress Committee Secretary Viswanath Perumal has been booked by the Kerala Police for making objectionable remarks against Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
While inaugurating a recent protest march of the opposition Congress party at Kannur, Perumal said that the gold smuggling case accused Swapna Suresh is the "girlfriend of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan".
The Kannur police registered a case based on a complaint filed by a local functionary of the ruling CPI (M).
Perumal has been charged under Section 153 of the IPC.
A former Lok Sabha Member from Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu resident Perumal is the AICC Secretary in charge of Kerala and Lakshadweep.
Swapna Suresh, presently out on bail, has been going hammer and tongs against Chief Minister Vijayan and his family.
Swapna claims the CM and his family have indulged in smuggling gold and currencies.
