Wayanad: The Kerala government announced that donations of more than Rs 53.98 crores had been received by the Chief Minister's Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF) in just seven days for the purpose of providing assistance and rehabilitation to the victims of the Wayanad landslide.
The CMDRF received Rs. 53,98,52,948 as of August 5. Numerous individuals and organisations, including migrant workers and youngsters who gave their meagre resources, are credited with the enormous donations, the News Minute reported.
The July 30 disaster resulted in approximately 400 deaths and over 150 missing in the Meppadi panchayat. Chooralmala and Mundakkai are the places most affected. According to government data, 91 relief camps are now housing 9,328 displaced people in the district. The Kerala government has garnered widespread support as numerous individuals, including well-known figures, have made appeals for international aid to rebuild the severely damaged villages.
AK Antony, Ramesh Chennithala, and VD Satheesan of the Congress have been among the political figures who have encouraged the public to donate to the CMDRF, despite devious tactics by right-wing supporters to discourage such donations.
AK Antony has personally donated Rs 50,000, highlighting the necessity of collective efforts to assist Wayanad. A lot of people were touched by the heartwarming act of migrant workers in Kerala donating their one-day earnings to the cause.
A number of well-known people, including Mohanlal, Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan, Allu Arjun, and Prabhas, have contributed to the cause.
The money is credited to the Principal Secretary, Finance's account by the CMDRF. Every year, the Controller of Auditor General conducts an audit of these accounts to guarantee proper utilisation and transparency.
