Thiruvanthapuram: Kerala Education Minister V Sivankutty has promised stringent action against those responsible for the leak of question papers for the SSLC and class 11 Christmas examinations.
Addressing the media on Saturday, Sivankutty emphasized that the Director General of Education would lodge a formal complaint with the Director General of Police (DGP) regarding the incident. The leak involved the Class 10 English and Class 11 Mathematics question papers, which were reportedly circulated on YouTube channels before the exams.
The Minister also stated that the government would take action against the YouTube channels that published the leaked question papers. Additionally, he mentioned that teachers associated with private tuition centers would be investigated as part of the ongoing inquiry. The government plans to collect information from the Public Education Department about teachers involved in private tuition, which violates departmental regulations.
Sivankutty condemned the YouTube channels for seeking “notorious fame” by publishing the leaked papers. He acknowledged that while the exams were not crucial for students’ futures, it was essential to preserve the integrity of the examination system.
The Minister reiterated that teachers are prohibited from offering private tuition, with strict action already taken against those violating this directive. He assured that details of these actions would be made public soon.
A statement released by the General Education Department confirmed that the Director of General Education would file a complaint with the State DGP and Cyber Cell regarding the leak of the Plus One question papers for the Christmas examinations and their circulation on YouTube. The statement described the incident as a “serious matter” and reassured that the culprits would be identified and brought to justice.
The department also outlined the strict security measures in place to ensure the integrity of the question paper preparation and distribution process. For the Plus One and Two Christmas Model Exams, question papers are prepared during workshops at the SCERT. Two sets of papers are generated, with one set selected and printed at a confidential press outside the state. These papers are then delivered directly to 14 district centers, where school principals collect them.
The statement also explained that question papers for Classes 8, 9, and 10 are prepared by the District Institutes of Education and Training (DIET), with a final set selected and sent to the press via Samagra Shiksha Kerala (SSK). The printed papers are distributed to Block Resource Centers (BRC) and, eventually, to the schools.
The Education Department reiterated that no compromises would be tolerated in maintaining the integrity of the examination system and assured that stricter security measures would continue to be enforced.
