Campus Front leader narrates coercive actions by ED; Court admonishes the agency

Kochi: A court here on Thursday admonished the Enforcement Directorate in strong words as the Campus Front leader Raoof Sharif, who is accused of illegal money transaction, revealed the coercive actions by the agency.

The Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court was considering an application submitted by the central agency to extend the accused's custody when Raoof narrated the agency's tortures to abuse him mentally while in custody.

He said that the ED officials forced him to sign in several blank papers and threatened of arresting his brother slapping with the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Upon this, the court warned the agency and said that stringent actions will be taken if such manoeuvres are repeated.

Though the agency sought a seven days-custody of the accused in the case, the court extended it for two days only.

The ED accused that unaccounted money has been flown to Raoof's account and the said fund was utilised for anti-CAA protests.

However, Raoof said that the amount was credited to the account as part of business deals and solid proofs are there to establish the same.
