Thiruvananthapuram: Union Minister and BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar wrote on Facebook expressing his sadness over floods and related deaths that did not occur in Kerala. The 'condolence' post claimed that Kerala is experiencing floods and many lost lives.
However, he removed the post after netizens rose to the occasion to question it. Users trolled him and gave sarcastic replies to the post, turning the comment section into a party site.
"Deeply saddened to hear about the loss of many lives in the Kerala floods. My condolences to the bereaved families. Hoping for the speedy recovery of those injured," the post read. The message was written both in English and Malayalam.
State Education Minister V Sivankutty was one of the prominent people who trolled him for sharing fake news. He said that Chandrasekhar might have watched the '2018' movie to write such a post. He slammed that Chandrasekhar must visit Kerala occasionally, rather than during the elections, to be well informed about the state.
Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Mayor Arya Rajendran posted, "Did he just see this or something? Someone should tell him that this is a movie," Manorama Online quoted her.
The rains are severe in Kerala. But it has not turned into a flood. Low-lying areas, including Kochi are underwater. Meanwhile, no accidents or deaths of the kind mentioned in the Union Minister's Facebook post have been reported in Kerala due to this rain.
