Thiruvananthapuram: Popular Malayalam actor Suresh Gopi climbed to the top committee of state BJP skipping all the steps in between, poising for even bigger role.
Gopi, who is a nominated member by the BJP to the Rajya Sabha, was on Friday included in the Core Committee of the Kerala unit of the party.
The Core Committee is the highest decision-making body of the BJP in the state and the actor's entry to committee suggests bypassing of some its strict norms.
The committee, according to the party conventions, included only state party presidents, former presidents and general secretaries and Gopi never held any of these posts.
Though Gopi was hoping for a second term in the Upper house, it did not happen and then he was promised to be considered for some top party post.
Despite having no political experience, Gopi put up a good fight in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls for the Thrissur constituency and also for the 2021 Thrissur Assembly constituency.
Since then, his stock in the party and among the general populace had risen.
After his term in the Upper house ended in April this year, he put pedal to his hugely popular acting career, where he ranks third in the list of superstars after Mammootty and Mohanlal.
The faction-ridden state BJP lost in the 2021 Assembly polls the only seat it had won in the 2016 Assembly polls, alongside suffering a drop in the vote share for the party.
Meanwhile, Gopi's elevation to the state BJP is widely seen as his launch pad for a bigger role in the party.
