Thiruvananthapuram: After the 46th day of the students' demonstration at Thekkumthala in Kottayam, Shankar Mohan, the director of the KR Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts (KRNNIVSA), resigned on Saturday.
According to Shankar Mohan, who spoke to a news channel, his resignation was not related to the protests taking place inside the institute but rather was necessary because his term as the director of the organisation had come to an end.
On December 5, 2022, 82 KRNNIVSA students went on an indefinite strike, seeking the director's resignation and accusing him of discriminating against castes in the admissions process. As a result, the institute was closed on the district collector's orders due to potential law and order problems.
Following this, students changed the course of their protest. They began practising the "art of protest," in which they continued their strike while taking online and offline marketing classroom classes off campus. They received a lot of help from the film community, with many film stars offering to help the youngsters continue their academic pursuits, the New Indian Express reported.
A two-person panel was established by the government in the interim to investigate the problems. A week ago, the commission turned in its report. The government was reportedly contemplating the report's conclusions and suggestions when Mohan announced his resignation.
