Student taking life disheartening: Kerala HC

Kochi: Kerala High Court on Wednesday described the alleged suicide of a student over lacking access to online learning as disheartening.

Alongside the court referred to a Division Bench a writ petition which sought directing CBSE schools not to collect additional fee for online/ virtual classes.

As well as restraining CBSE-affiliated school, Sree Budha Central School Karunagapally, Kollam from taking fee for online classes from Sreelekshmi S. and Dhanvin M. Pillai ( third and seventh standard students), the court observed that the right to education was sacrosanct in the Constitution.

According to the petitioner, the school authorities threatened several parents that school textbooks wouldn’t be given to their children unless the fee for online class was not paid.

Whatsapp voice tutorial and other mode of teaching the first day were denied to students whose parents stood up to the demand.
