Tik Tok ban could mean loss of livelihood for many

Kochi: For many Tik Tok was an app to record their pranks and goof ups, just for fun. However, for a large number of others it was a source of income—especially those working in advertising field.

Many relied on apps like Tik Tok, Hello, Like in order to reach out online for branding, digital marketing, and influencer marketing.

Many Tik Tok stars were staffs at advertising companies; their works that combined art and technology wowed millions.

The startups emerging in advertising field first stepped in Tik Tok.

The Three Idiots Media based in Kochi,  Tik Tok’s SouthIndia MCN( multi channel networks) company, produced hit video series including ‘Senior’, and ‘Kalipinte pennu’.  The company also had revenue from Hello App.

Its algorithm that propelled Tik Tok made the app more attractive than Instagram, face book and Twitter.  

This algorithm was helpful in scrolling hundreds of videos making it favourite for users.  Comedians got millions of viewers without much hardship.

Many who could narrate a story in one minute found their ways to big screen.  Tik Tok offered a platform for those wanted a place for apprenticeship. Actors trained in expressing emotions in short videos.

Stars with 10 lakh viewership took home around rs 20,000.  Advertising companies are now switching over to apps including Dubmash and Mitron.
