All illegal flats in Maradu razed to dust

Kochi: At 2: 30 pm, the last of the standing buildings in Maradu—Golden Kayaloramm, illegally built on the lakefront, fell to dust, implementing the Supreme Court.

The first siren was to be sounded at 1:30pm which delayed by a few minutes as the last round of inspection was not yet over.

At 2:28 pm there rose the last siren, two minutes later where the towering structure stood was a pile of rubble, and billowing dust.

Earlier in the day, the third of the illegal flats on the lake front turned into dust at 11.03 am in the morning.

The sprawling residential apartment, Jains Coral Cove sagged down into a cauliflower of dust and rubble

The 55-meter high building, thanks to its girth, stood over the lake in pomposity before it came down, becoming just a memory.

The apartment was among those violated Coastal Regulation Zone norms and the apex court ordered them to be demolished.
