Govt apologizes to Nobel laureate Michael Levitt

Kottayam: The state government on Thursday stepped in for damage control after Nobel Prize-winner Michael Levitt was detained by supporters of general strike in Alapuzha.

As well as arresting four persons in connection with the incident, the government sent Kottayam District Collector P K Sudheer Babu to express grief and concern of the state over the incident.

 Levitt told media he had no complaints regarding the bad experience he faced from the supporters of the general strike.

“Lakes and backwaters in Kerala are wonderful and people are very good. Everything is beautiful,” he said.

Collector Sudheer Babu expressed to Levitt the government’s concern and grief over the incident, which the Nobel laureate accepted.

 Levitt made a response to the incident from the initial shock, as he was informed that tourism sector was excluded from the general strike, according to the collector.
