Fair value for land registration to be charged only after May 15

Thiruvananthapuram: Minister G. Sudhakaran said that in the wake of Covid 19,  safe custody fees levied against title deeds kept at sub-registrar offices in the state will be relaxed for seven days after lifting lockdown restrictions.

Application of fair value of land price has been postponed till 15th May. Closing date for one time settlement scheme of under-valuation of assets and for filing arrear returns by charitable societies have been postponed to 30 September.

The minister also said that a financial aid of Rs. 3,000 has been approved from welfare fund of document writers, thumb impression and vendor licensees.

Registered title deeds and attested copies of title deeds are issued to the owners only after levying safe custody fees if they are not picked up within 15 days.

As lockdown restrictions came into effect in the state, such title deeds and related documents were not collected in due time by the owners. Sub-registrar offices have resumed functioning after relaxations came into effect since April 20.

However, as public transport is yet to start and strict restrictions are continuing in hotspot areas, people will face difficulties to collect the documents on the first day after relaxation. The minister said that the documents will be issued without levying safe custody charges.
