Hundreds turn out protesting the church Bill

Kochi: Several Church denominations in Kerala observed ‘Black Day’ on Sunday, protesting the proposal by the Law Reforms Commission to introduce the Kerala Church (Properties and Institution) Bill 2019.

Hundreds of Catholic lay people and clergy wearing black badges took to protest meetings, processions and held sit-ins after Sunday mass across the state.

As well as demanding the authorities to take down the bill from the website of Kerala state Law Reforms Commission, the protesters wanted the government to communicate its decisions officially to the church authorities in lieu of public statements.

Alongside, a circular by the KCBC snubbed the Church Bill claiming that there was no justification for it.

The reasons stated for the introduction of the Bill were not based on facts, the circular said.
