Could not foresee believers' response on Sabarimala : CPI

Thiruvananthapuram: CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran said that Left Democratic Front (LDF) could not foresee the response of the believers while implementing the court order.  In a press meet to explain the decisions of a two-day leaders’ meet here, he admitted that victory of United Democratic Front (UDF) is a political defeat of LDF.

The state government is constitutionally bound to execute the Supreme Court order.  As the secular voters were not convinced of the government's stance, it raised doubts and LDF lost its votes. However, this is a passing phase.  Success of the opposition was achieved through misguiding the people.  LDF faced an unexpected defeat.  LDF focused on ousting Modi. However, Congress' campaign was that they were the real alternative and it influenced the voters. Media also had a role in the loss of LDF.

CPI is concerned about 12% vote difference between LDF and UDF. I t is the biggest setback after LDF was formed in 1980.  Corrective measures will be taken after examining the real cause of the loss at booth level.  The party will interact with believers too.   However, it will not hold discussions with communal organisations.  CPI has no enmity towards or loyalty to Nair Service Society.  The party is not against the style of the Chief Minister, Kanam added.
