Custody death: Crime Branch finds SP guilty

Thodupuzha: The crime branch team probing the custody death of Raj Kumar reportedly found that Idukki district police Chief K.B. Venugopal had failed to discharge his duties judicially.

The team teased out the information that RajKumar had been arrested, and later jailed without medical fitness, as per the direction of the SP.

It has emerged that Raj Kumar had been arrested and subjected to third-degree questioning not without the knowledge of the SP.

Cops under suspension reportedly gave the statement that Rajkumar had been in custody for four days at Nedukandam station with the knowledge of SP and Kattappana DYSP.

Crime Branch dubs as lapse the SP’s inaction in the report by Special branch on the deteriorating health of Raj Kumar.

Indicating interference in the case, the CPM district committee reportedly took the stance before Chief Minister as not to take action against the SP.

As a result, the probe team was asked not to report their findings. The CPM leadership is not interested in handing out any punishment to the SP other than a-slap-on-the-wrist transfer.
