Move to allot five lakhs more electric poles to JIO for cabling

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala’s KSEB is set to allot five lakhs more electricity poles to Reliance JIO to draw optical fibre cables in the state.

The latest moves comes alongside the consent given in 2015 for half a lakh poles.

KSEB field officials have been directed to assist JIO officials in identifying poles.

Reliance approached KSEB in May last year to get consent for five lakhs poles to facilitate the company’s fibre to home project.

On June 21 the company handed a letter to the government in this regard. On June 12, KSEB received the government’s written response in this matter.

Reliance requested at the time for immediate consent of half a lakh poles and additional poles of two lakhs in six months.

JIO has approached the government with a project to capitalize on KSEB’s statewide uninterrupted network.

The latest move by government is against its earlier decision not to grant permission of poles for cabling, in order to facilitate the government’s project of K-Phone.
