People's Foundation will build 500 houses for the flood-affected

Thiruvananthapuram: People's Foundation, a philanthropic body working for the welfare of the downtrodden and needy, has announced that it will build 500 houses as part of rebuilding programme for those affected by the floods that ravaged the state in mid-August.

An estimated 1,000 houses will be repaired.  It was found in surveys that many houses which were not recorded in official data of the flood-affected, have been eroded in the disaster. Land and houses will be provided for them.  The project will be executed in cooperation with the government.  Minister EP Jayarajan was apprised of details of the project by People's Foundation Patron MI Abdul Azeez and Chairman P. Mujeeb Rahman.

The office bearers informed that 500 people will be given jobs.  4,000 people will be supplied with health cards, which will be issued with the cooperation of hospitals.  Scholarships, school kit, laptop and other forms of assistance also will be provided. Individual waste management units, medical camps, drinking water supply and reconstruction of public libraries also will be executed.

Those who are deprived of government aid will be given priority.  Funds will be raised from the public.  People's Foundation, established in 2012 with an aim of uplifting the backward people and marginalised regions, has been active in rehabilitation programmes. In cooperating with Ideal Relief Wing (IRW), an on-call body of volunteers, more than 6,000 people were rescued. 46,000 families were supplied with food. Clothes were supplied to more than 20,000 people. Drinking water was supplied to more than 45,000 people. People's Foundation mobilized the cleaning of more than 500 houses and wells.
