Kottayam: The metropolitans of various dioceses visited the rape-accused Roman Catholic bishop Franco Mulakkal at a sub-jail at Pala on Monday.
Franco was recently remanded to judicial custody on charges of raping a nun.
The Metropolitan of Kanjirappally diocese Mar Mathew Arackal, auxiliary bishop Mar Jose Pulickal and the auxiliary bishop of the Pathanamthitta diocese Samuel Mar Irenios were the ones who visited bishop Franco in the prison.
Meanwhile, Kerala High Court will resume hearing on the bail plea of Mulakkal on Wednesday.
The prosecution had earlier pleaded against the bail to the bishop pointing out he might try to destroy evidence.
The police had informed the court that the investigation is progressing.
The bishop's judicial custody will end on October 6.
The nun, in her complaint, had alleged that the bishop had sexually assaulted her at a guest house at Kuravilangadu in May 2014 and later sexually exploited her on several occasions.
The nun had said that she had to approach the police as church authorities did not act on her repeated complaints against the clergyman.
However, Mulakkal has denied the allegations.
