BJP calls for hartal in Thiruvananthapuram Wednesday

Thiruvananthapuram: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to observe a dawn-to-dusk shutdown in Thiruvananthapuram district on Wednesday in protest against the police action against its workers.

The protest by Akila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) workers demanding resignation of Law Academy Law College Principal Lekshmi Nair had turned violent on Tuesday when the police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the crowd that were blocking the road as part of the agitation.

The party later said several of its workers were injured in the police action.

Former State president of the BJP V Muraleedharan has been on a hunger strike in front of the campus in support of the agitating students.
