UDF MLAs to stop hunger strike

Thiruvananthapuram: The UDF has decided to not go on with the hunger strike by its MLAs at the foyer of the Assembly hall to protest against the fee hike in self-financing medical colleges following failure of talks between Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the managements of the colleges.

Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, while announcing the decision, told the media that the MLAs would not carry on with the hunger strike as the Assembly is going to be on an 11-day leave and would meet only on 17 October after the Puja holidays.

Chennithala said that a UDF meet held here had decided to expand the protests across the state. The Opposition will hold public meetings at major areas in the state to expose the LDF government’s failure in handling the matter.
