Strong action to tackle goonda menace: minister

Thiruvananthapuram: Excise Minister T.P Ramakrishnan Sunday said strict action would be taken to tackle the goonda menace in the state.

“What the Chief Minister had said in the Assembly the other day is the stand of the government on the issue,” the minister responded to reporters’ queries.

On Tuesday, Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan had told the state assembly that the government would set up an anti-goonda squad under the police department in the state.

He said that this would be part of the government's efforts to suppress all goonda activities with an iron fist.

The chief minister was speaking after the opposition demanded a discussion on what they termed the `goonspolice-politicians nexus' in the state.
