SC rejects review plea in Soumya case; issues contempt notice to Katju

New Delhi: The Supreme Court Friday rejected a review plea filed by the Kerala government and Soumya's mother in the murder case.

The apex court also served a contempt notice on Justice Markandey Katju for his Facebook comment on the Soumya murder case verdict.

The court said said the Katju's remarks were an assault on the judges and not on judgement. "I don't bother," Katju said, following which he was asked to be escorted out.

In his Facebook post, Justice Katju had criticised the apex court saying it had grievously erred by "not holding" the convict, Govindachamy, "guilty of murder" in the case.

In an unprecedented order, the apex court on October 17 had asked him to appear and debate his Facebook post criticising the judgment by which the accused had escaped gallows in the Soumya rape case in which he was acquitted of murder charge.
