Govt to stick to its decision to cull ferocious dogs

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government will go ahead with its decision to cull all “ferocious dogs” despite opposition from various quarters including Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandh.

Making the state government's stand clear, Minister for Local Self Government K.T. Jaleel on Friday said the government will go ahead with its decision to cull all "ferocious dogs".

“We are not in for a face-off with the Centre government over the matter. But we will stick to the decision. A person who cannot love humans cannot be an animal-lover,” he said in an apparent reply to Maneka Gandhi who had criticized the state government over its plan.

The Union minister had said that the Kerala government was trying to portray her as a ‘fanatic’ in spite of performing its duty. She called the government decision to cull stray-dogs breach of law.

The menace came into the limelight again after around 50 stray dogs killed a 65-year-old woman in Thiruvananthapuram earlier in the month.
