No seat for persons with corruption charges: KPCC

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala PCC has instructed district congress committees not to nominate persons with corruption charges and involved in criminal and financial fraud cases for the coming civic polls.

Winnability, public acceptance, commitment to party and clean character should be the main criteria while selecting candidates for the civic polls to be held next month.

KPCC President V M Sudheeran said in a circular issued to DCCs, persons involved in criminal cases related to drugs, immoral activities and financial fraud should not be given seats.

The candidates' list should be finalised only after ensuring that this type of people were not included, Sudheeran said.

KPCC wanted to provide preference to new faces and youths while selecting candidates. The circular was issued following complaints from youth congress, mahila congress and dalit congress that KPCC guidelines for candidates selection was not adhered to.

Elections are to be held in 21,905 wards of six corporations, 87 municipalities, 941 gram panchayats, 152 block panchayats and 14 district panchayats.
