Bar bribery case: LDF to lay siege to Assembly on March 13

Thiruvananthapuram: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) State committee has decided to lay siege to the Kerala Assembly on the day the state budget is to be presented by Finance Minister K.M Mani.

The Assembly session began today with the Governor’s address to the House. The Budget is likely to be presented on March 13.

It was also decided to conduct a state wide protest on the day.

As Governor Justice P Sathashivam began his speech today, the Opposition members held up placards and banners demanding that Mani quit his post before staging a walkout. The opposition members later staged a demonstration outside the Assembly.

They demanded that the governor refrain from announcing the policies of the government as charges had been levelled against the state's Finance Minister.

The bar bribery case pertains to allegations levelled by a hotel owner against Mani that he had taken a bribe for a favourable decision on bar hotels, which were closed as part of the government's new liquor policy.
