104-year-old Kerala woman Janaki Amma defeats COVID

Kannur: Janaki Amma, a 104-year-old woman from Kerala's Kannur district, got discharged from the government medical college in Pariyaram, Kannur, on Friday after recovering from COVID-19. Janaki Amma was admitted to the medical college ICU from a COVID care centre at Taliparamba on May 31 after her condition turned critical.

People over 65 years fall into the high-risk category, and recovery is difficult. However, in Kerala, Randathani Variath Pathu, a 110-year-old woman, recovered from Covid-19 in Malappuram, followed by 105-year-old Asma Beevi from Kollam and another 103-year-old.

Pariyaram Medical College principal-in-charge Dr S Ajith and other hospital staff wished Janaki Amma as she left the hospital. "Janaki Amma's confidence at this age is an inspiration for all to fight the disease," Health Minister Veena George, who greeted Janaki Amma, said.

The Minister further acknowledged and praised the efforts of the doctors, nurses and other staff of the hospital for helping the centenarian recover. However, Janaki amma's daughter-in-law and her mother continue to be under treatment for COVID.
