Kausambi: A shocking video from Uttar Pradesh's Kausambi district showed a woman's body being transported on a motorcycle for cremation, triggering outrage.
The body was taken on the bike to the Sato Ghat cremation ground as there was no hearse available, The Free Press Journal reported.
Filmed by a commuter, the video went viral with former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav sharing it on his X handle.
Akhilesh Yadav called out the BJP administration for the incident.
Verifying the authenticity of the video, the Free Press Journal identified the deceased as Buddharani, a resident of Mohabbatpur Jeeta village.
It is reported citing NDTV that Buddharani died under mysterious circumstances as her relatives alleged that she was murdered.
A detailed investigation has been launched into the matter. The police handed her body to her relatives after the postmortem.
Her relatives claimed that the body was taken on a bike as they could not get a hearse.
Responding to the incident, district magistrate Madhusudan Hulgi launched a probe seeking a report from the concerned officials.
In a similar incident in Nagapur a man transported the body of his deceased wife tying it to his motorcycle last month.
The woman, identified as Gyarsi Amit Yadav, died after she was hit by a speeding truck.
Her husband, Amit Yadav, said he was helpless as passersby ignored his appeal for help.
The couple, hailing from Seoni district in Madhya Pradesh, had been living in Lonara, near Koradi, Nagpur, for the past decade.
