A woman who accused BJP leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa of sexually abusing her 17-year-old daughter has died at a private hospital in Bengaluru on Sunday night.
According to the police, the woman, who was undergoing treatment for cancer, was admitted to the hospital after she complained of breathing issues.
On March 14, the woman filed an FIR under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at a local police station. She alleged that her minor daughter was sexually abused when they visited B S Yediyurappa’s residence on February 2 to seek assistance in another rape case. According to her complaint, her daughter was allegedly raped by a relative in 2015, and the case is currently at the trial stage.
Yediyurappa has denied the allegations.
The Karnataka government ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to probe the case involving Yediyurappa. The CID has recorded the statements of the victim and her mother under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
A police officer reported that the woman passed away while doctors were preparing to treat her in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). She is survived by her daughter, who is a rape victim, and a son. The woman had separated from her husband, who reportedly did not support her in pursuing the case.
The officer also noted that the woman had been diagnosed with lung cancer in the past and was receiving treatment for the condition.
