Woman reversing car off Maharashtra cliff falls into gorge, dies

Pune: A woman died as the car she was reversing on a cliff fell off into a 300 feet gorge in Maharashtra.

The accident, captured on camera by her friend, occurred as she was learning to drive, NDTV reported. 

The video showed the 23-year-old Shweta Deepak Surwase behind the wheel as her friend Suraj Sanjau Mule, 25 was making a video of her learning how to drive.

The two friends had travelled from Aurangabad to Sulibhanjan Hills on Monday afternoon.

The accident took place around 2 pm when Surwase got into the car and began slowly reversing it.

The car was still 50 metres away from the cliff when Surwase continued to reverse increasing the speed with her friend warning her to slow down.

Suraj Sanjau Mule could be heard screaming "Clutch, clutch, clutch" amid the revving of the car engine.

Mule rushed to help her but the car fell into the gorge killing her.

Witnesses reported that the car rolled down the 300-foot high cliff before falling into the gorge.

The friends were visiting the Dattatreya temple in Sulibhanjan when the accident occurred.

During rainy season, large number of tourists throng at the Sulibhanhan hills to enjoy the picturesque scenery.
