Bengaluru: A 29-year-old woman in the city is charged with conducting public mischief after she made a hoax call to the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).
She is reported to have made the call to stop her boyfriend from flying to Mumbai.
The KIA police registered a case against the woman identified as Indra Rajwar following the incident on June 25 when she called the airport’s helpline alerting about a bomb in the possession of a passenger.
The case is filed on July 3 before the news laws came into force, under Section 505(1)(B) (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Police said that Indra Rajwar, who is from Pune and works in Bengaluru, ‘contacted the airport helpline where she stated that Mir Raza Mehdi who was travelling from Bengaluru to Mumbai, had a bomb in his bag. She also mentioned that Mehdi was her boyfriend.’
The airport authorities found nothing incriminating after frisking of Mehdi.
However, the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) in its meeting decided to file a complaint against the woman.
Both Indra Rajwar and Mehdi were found to be at the Bengaluru airport when she made the call.
“Both of them had tickets booked for Mumbai on different flights and had been seen conversing in the departure lounge before Rajwar made the call to the helpline. She was taken to the police station and she admitted that she had called the airport helpline to prevent Mehdi from flying to Mumbai as there were some differences between them,” a police officer was quoted as saying.
While letting go of her, the police asked her to appear before them for questioning.
