Bengaluru: Footage from a Bengaluru temple showed a woman being mercilessly thrashed, grabbed by the hair and dragged out of the shrine.
NDTV reported that the woman went through the ordeal because she claimed that she was the wife of Lord Venkateshwara and insisted on sitting next to the diety’s statue.
The incident, which happened on December 21, came to the public’s notice after she filed a complaint at the Amruthahalli Police Station.
The video features a man who pulls the victim by her hair across the temple floor. While the woman resists the violence on her, the man tries to grab her dupatta and keeps pushing her out of the visible area.
When the woman continues to resist, the man slaps her multiple times and then goes for a rod to thrash her with it. The video also shows another person who tries to shield her from the attack.
Police have lodged a case against the attacker under various sections of the IPC (Indian Penal Code).
There are reports that the woman insisted on sitting with the idol, claiming that she was the deity’s wife, while the priest of the temple did not allow it. Then she spat on the priest, it is alleged.
Then the temple staff intervened and thrashed the lady out of the premises. According to locals, the victim is mentally challenged, NDTV reported.
