New Delhi: Union IT Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar gives a subtle response to WhatsApp tweeting an incorrect map of India. It had excluded some Indian territories claimed by China and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
He tweeted that he is requesting that WhatsApp fix the India map error as soon as possible. "All platforms that do business in India and/or want to continue to do business in India, must use correct maps."
The WhatsApp tweet was about an NYE live stream link and messaging feature along with the hashtag TheRealFireWorks. The minister noticed and addressed the issue within hours. He also tagged the parent company, Meta, in the tweet.
India has expressed displeasure over the incorrect depiction of territories particularly Kashmir several times in the past.
WhatsApp quickly responded to the criticism and removed the link. The tech giant also thanked the minister for pointing out the "unintended error." "We have promptly removed the stream, apologies. We will be mindful in the future."
