New Delhi: Trinamool Congress lawmaker Mahua Moitra was seen on video setting down her Louis Vuitton bag under the table during a discussion on price rise in the Lok Sabha.
Moitra's deft removal of the pricey tote bag was interpreted as her hiding of it as lawmaker Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar was passionately speaking about how price rise on LPG cylinders upset household budgets.
It was then Moitra quickly moved her bag from her side to under the table near her feet.
The video, according to India Today, was shared by Ajit Datta on Twitter with a caption that read "As the issue of "mehengai" is raised, somebody's Louis Vuitton bag quickly slides under the bench".
News agency IANS reported that the luxury brand Louis Vuitton bag costs more than Rs 1.5 lakh.
With the video going viral, netizens came down roaring with comments bashing Mahua Moitra for raising price rise while carrying an expensive bag.
Congress member Manish Tewari initiated the debate on the price rise saying that for the past 14 months the inflation rate has been at the highest in 30 years.
Tewari also said GST was increased on basic supply including rice, curd and paneer just as children also suffer price hike on school items.
