Vijay rejects NDA alliance rumours, vows TVK will contest alone on secular principles

Chennai: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay on Wednesday firmly dismissed speculation of an alliance with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, insisting his party will go solo without compromising its "secular social justice" ethos.

Speaking at an Iftar event organised by TVK in Mamallapuram, 60 km south of Chennai, Vijay quashed rumours that have dogged the party since its inception.

"From the time I entered politics, there have been continuous rumours that we are a proxy of one party or another. At different times, people have said we belong to this alliance or that alliance. But I want to make it very clear — we are not part of any such team. We belong only to the people’s team," he declared.

Vijay accused detractors of launching a "false campaign" to confuse voters and erode TVK's independent stance, especially as new whispers of pre-election tie-ups gain ground.

"You may feel confused when you hear such news. That is exactly the intention behind spreading these rumours. Let me reiterate clearly — we will always stand by our principles of secular social justice without any compromise," he stressed, reiterating his pledge from TVK's inaugural state conference to form the next government on its own steam.

"There is no room for compromise in our politics. Do not believe false propaganda. With the blessings of God and the support of the people, we will achieve our goal," Vijay added.

His statement arrives as Tamil Nadu's political scene heats up with intensifying alliance negotiations.
