Lakhimpur Kheri: In Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri, a speeding van crashed into a bus, which came against, killing five people, including a child. The horrible accident, which also injured eight, happened on the Lakhimpur-Bahraich highway on Sunday, PTI reported.
Lakhimpur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ramesh Kumar Tiwari told media persons that the van was on its way from Bahraich side to Lakhimpur when it collided near Nakha village with a state roadways bus coming from Lakhimpur.
Four passengers of the van, including a child, were killed on the spot, while another passenger died on his way to the hospital, the DSP said.
Among the eight injured, six persons were reported to be critical. All injured persons have been sent to the district hospital, he said.
Kheri District Magistrate Mahendra Bahadur Singh and Superintendent of Police Ganesh Prasad Saha rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation. They also visited the district hospital and reviewed the medical staff's treatment of the injured persons.
In other news, a private bus rammed into two roadside shanties in the South Goa district; four labourers were killed, while five were critically injured. The accident occurred at around 11.30 pm on Saturday at the Verna Industrial Estate when the labourers, engaged in road construction work, were sleeping in the shanties, police said. Deputy Superintendent of Police Santosh Desai said the bus driver, identified as Bharat Govekar, a resident of the nearby Cartolim village, has been taken into custody and is being questioned.
