New Delhi: Police registered a case against a US citizen for smoking in the bathroom and misbehaving with co-passengers on a Mumbai-bound Air India flight on Saturday.
The 37-year-old man identified as Ramakant allegedly tried to open the door of the flight heading towards Mumbai.
A crew member told ANI that just as the man went to the bathroom the alarm started to ring and crew members rushed towards the bathroom, only to see the man with a cigarette in his hand, according to Indian Express.
“We immediately threw the cigarette from his hand. Then Ramakant started shouting at all our crew members. Somehow we took him to his seat. But after some time he tried to open the door of the aircraft. All the passengers got scared because of his behaviour. He was not ready to listen to us and kept shouting. Then we tied his hands and legs and made him sit on the seat,” the crew member of Air India told the Sahar Police, the ANI report said.
When one of the passengers who was a doctor came over and checked him, Ramakant said he had some medicines in his bag. But there was not any in the bag except an e-cigarette, which was recovered during search.
“We have sent the sample of the accused for medical test to confirm whether he was in an inebriated state or mentally disturbed,” the news agency reported quoting the Mumbai police.
Ramakant is facing a case under various section of Indian Penal Code which includes charges for behaving rashly or negligently to endanger personal safety of others, according to Mumbai police.
