Upset over game's timing, The New Indian Express suspends IPL coverage

Adding to the disaccord in conducting IPL Cricket amid the worst phase of the covid-19 pandemic, The New Indian Express has on Sunday decided to suspend IPL coverage in the newspaper with immediate effect, till normalcy is restored in the country.

'In such a tragic time, we find it incongruous that the festival of cricket is on in India, with layers of bio bubbles creating protection. This is commercialism gone crass.' said Indian express.

Meanwhile, the second wave of coronavirus has hit the country like a tsunami, with daily cases crossing over  3 lakh for the fourth day in a row.

India has reported over 3.49 lakh cases and 2,760 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The severe shortfall of medical oxygen, hospital beds and life-saving medicines despite strict government measures have left covid -19 patients and family members hopeless. As several hospitals refuse fresh admissions for want of covid beds, friends and family members of the covid patients can be seen rushing from pillar to post begging for help to save their near and dear ones.

Expressing confidence that readers will stand by the decision, Indian express said  'This is a small gesture towards keeping the nation's attention focussed on life and death issues. We are sure that our readers will see the point. These are times when we must stand as one nation with one resolve'.
