Ghaziabad: A 50-year-old YouTuber known for posting allegedly controversial videos related to a particular religion was stabbed several times by two helmeted men in the Loni area of Ghaziabad on Friday, police said.
The victim, Salim Ahmed, also known as Salim Wastik, was attacked inside his office in Ali Garden shortly after offering morning prayers.
According to police, the two assailants, who had reportedly been seen loitering near the premises, entered the office and attacked him with sharp-edged weapons before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.
Ahmed sustained serious injuries to his neck, abdomen and ear. Following the commotion, local residents gathered and alerted the police, who rushed him to a hospital in Loni. He was later referred to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital in Delhi due to his critical condition, said ACP Loni Siddhartha Gautam.
Ahmed runs a YouTube channel titled “Salim Wastik”.
Preliminary investigations suggest that he may have been targeted over videos allegedly criticising certain practices within the Muslim community, the officer added.
An FIR has been registered on the complaint of his son, Usman, naming seven individuals, Gautam said. Police are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify and trace the attackers, he added.
