UP Police alleges Rs 50 lakh offered to Hathras victims' family

Lucknow:  Uttar Pradesh police has alleged that some groups promised the Hathras gang rape victim's family Rs 50 Lakh for spreading lies about the Uttar Pradesh state government.

The mention figures in one of the 19 FIR's filed by the police containing sedition charges connected with the Hathras gang-rape case. The FIR states that an unknown group plotted against the government and offered money to the victim's family in return for their telling lies before the media.

"Under a pre-planned conspiracy, few political workers were involved in disturbing law & order situation in Hathras. They even spread rumours to incite general public. We have registered cases under relevant sections against them" said Prashant Kumar, ADG (Law & Order), Uttar Pradesh

"We have also registered case against few for trying to disturb communal harmony by circulating a viral audio related to inciting Hathras victim's family, pressuring them for making wrong statements & enticing them with Rs 50 lakh offer" he added

The FIR was registered by Sub-Inspector of Police in Hathras. But it does not identify which those anonymous sources are.

The FIR also blames that some quarters made an attempt to ignite caste conflicts in UP. It also cites a mediaperson telling the victim's brother that there should be a part in the statement of the girl's parents to the effect that they are not satisfied with the UP government.

The FIR contains an allegation that there was a conspiracy to damage the image of the state government and that an effort was being made to spread false messsages via social media puporting to be by chief minister Yogi Adityanath.

A total of 19 FIRs have been filed all over the state by the police in connection with the Hathras incidents. Some of them charge that certain people tried to spoil the law and order in the state.

The cases were filed following claims by chief minister Yogi Adityanath that groups who were disturbed by the development activities of his government were trying to exploit the Hathras incident.
