Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on Monday approved the renaming of Jalalabad town in Shahjahanpur district as 'Parshurampuri', along with 28 other major proposals covering startups, healthcare, higher education and infrastructure.

"There had been a long-standing demand from the people to rename Jalalabad as Parshurampuri because it is regarded as the birthplace of Lord Parshuram," Pathak said while announcing the Cabinet decision.
Cabinet Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said the new name would be a fitting tribute to Lord Parshuram and the town's historical and cultural significance.
The proposal had earlier been forwarded to the Union government and had received its approval last year. Union Minister Jitin Prasad, who represents Shahjahanpur, had welcomed the decision, describing it as a matter of pride for the Sanatani community.
Apart from the renaming decision, the Cabinet approved the 'Uttar Pradesh Startup Policy-2026' and the creation of the Uttar Pradesh Startup Mission to strengthen innovation and entrepreneurship across the state.
The mission, to be registered under the Societies Registration Act, will be headed by the Chief Secretary. The government has earmarked a ₹1,000 crore startup fund, along with provisions for prototype development, seed capital assistance and annual grants for incubators to boost the startup ecosystem.
The Cabinet also approved cashless medical treatment of up to ₹5 lakh for nearly 1.60 lakh Home Guards and their dependents across the state.
It further cleared proposals for establishing the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi International Agricultural University in Bilhaur, Ajay Kumar Garg University in Ghaziabad and Thakur Yugraj Singh University in Fatehpur.
Other decisions included approval for setting up a Horticulture College and Research Centre in Raebareli, amendments relating to pensions for the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission Chairman and members, and the issuance of municipal bonds by the Gorakhpur and Moradabad municipal corporations.
