UP assembly polls: Gulabi gang founder quits Congress after being denied ticket

Disappointed over being denied a ticket for the upcoming UP assembly polls, the founder of the famous Gulabi Gang Sampat Pal quit the Congress. The Gulabi gang is a famous group that fights violence against women in the state.

Pal held the Congress leaders and observers directly responsible for denying her the ticket and added that she would speak to the top leadership in Delhi regarding the "internal politicking".

Earlier, in 2012 and 2017, Pal contested from the Mau-Manikpur seat on Congress tickets. She secured only 2,203 votes in the 2012 polls. Though her popularity rose in 2017 and she managed to garner 40,524 votes, she lost. This time, the Congress has replaced her with Ranjana Bhartilal Pandey.
