Undetonated World War II bomb found in West Bengal

A World War II-era bomb, found in an open field in West Bengal's Jhargram district, was successfully defused, according to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

On Friday, she shared an image of the operation on social media platform X, commending the joint efforts of the state government and the Indian Air Force in ensuring the safety of local residents during the delicate procedure.

"Yesterday, we received an alert about an unexploded WW-II bomb discovered in an open field at Bhulanpur village in Jhargram district. The state government, along with the police and the IAF, promptly took action," the Chief Minister stated. "Residents from nearby areas were evacuated to a safe location before the bomb disposal operation began."

The bomb was subsequently defused without incident. "I extend my gratitude to everyone involved for their exemplary work," Banerjee added.
