UIDAI launches full version of new Aadhaar app with mobile number update feature

The Unique Identification Authority of India on Wednesday launched the full version of its new Aadhaar app, aimed at enabling citizens to securely manage, update, and share their Aadhaar details through smartphones.

The app is available on both Android and iOS platforms via the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

UIDAI said the launch is part of its Mobile First approach to reach a larger base of smartphone users. While the app had been available since last year, its features were previously limited. The full-fledged version was first announced in November 2025.

According to UIDAI, one of the key features of the new Aadhaar app is the ability to update the Aadhaar-linked mobile number directly through the app. A dedicated section on the home screen also provides access to address updation services. Users can manage up to five Aadhaar profiles of family members through the Profile section.

The app also introduces offline Aadhaar verification, allowing individuals to confirm their identity without sharing their Aadhaar number. Through a Selective Share option, users can choose which details to share, including name, photo, age, date of birth, gender, address, status, and mobile number. Identity verification can also be done by scanning a QR code at authorised terminals.

Another feature is biometric locking, which enables users to lock their fingerprint, face, and iris data to prevent unauthorised authentication. UIDAI said the biometric lock can be removed through the app, but users may face access issues if their phone or registered mobile number is lost.

In addition, the app allows users to view their Aadhaar authentication history. UIDAI said the new Aadhaar app is available in 13 Indian languages to improve accessibility across regions.
