The Udupi district police have filed a case against a local doctor following public backlash over an allegedly communal post on social media. The doctor, Dr Keerthan Upadhya, who is employed at a private hospital in Brahmavara, Udupi, reportedly made a controversial statement against the Muslim community on the social media platform X.
The incident began when a user on X posed a hypothetical question about removing one thing from the world. Dr Upadhya's response, suggesting the removal of the Muslim community from the world, quickly went viral and sparked widespread outrage.
As the post gained attention, the doctor deleted it and issued a statement claiming his account had been hacked. He apologized and stated that he had not been active on the platform for several months, attributing the post to unauthorized access to his account.
Despite the deletion of the post and the doctor's subsequent apology, social media users continued to demand action, circulating screenshots of the original post. Responding to the public outcry, the Udupi town police took suo motu action and registered a case against Dr Upadhya.
