Kaimur/ Bihar: Two women constables in Bihar’s Kaimur district thrashed an elderly man for not stopping his bicycle whey they flagged down him.
A video of the incident filmed by a passerby went viral prompting authorities to start probe.
Nawal Kishor Pandey, a 60-year-old teacher, living in Barhuli village was crossing a road at Jay Prakash Chowk in Bhabua when two woman constables signaled at him to stop.
The man did not stop ignoring their direction and said something which constables took to be abusive, India Today reported.
The constables then allegedly pulled at his bicycle, before start beating him. The footage showed the man trying to shield himself as they rained blows on him.
He reportedly pleaded with them to let him off but the officers went on hitting him.
The teacher said one of the constables stood in front of the bicycle and the other one stood behind him before beating him with the baton.
He alleged that he was beaten for more than 20 rounds until a man intervened.
“I was so ashamed that I did not lodge any complaint in the police station. Due to their beating, my legs and hands were swollen. I want justice," said the man who teaches English teacher at DPS Parmalpur.
Kaimur superintendent of police (SP) Lalit Mohan Sharma said he would look into the matter, and sought a report from the Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) within 24 hours.
