Two ULFA-I terrorists arrested in Arunachal Pradesh while trying to infiltrate from Myanmar

Itanagar: Security forces in Arunachal Pradesh have successfully apprehended two ULFA (I) terrorists in Tirap district during a recent operation, as reported by the police.

The joint operation was carried out by the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles and the Arunachal Pradesh police, acting on intelligence inputs.

The arrested individuals had entered the state from Myanmar with the intention of making their way to Assam.

The two captured terrorists have been identified as Nilutpal Asom, who held the self-styled rank of private and was also known as Monjit Gogoi, and Upen Asom, another self-styled private who used the alias Ruhini Gogoi. Both individuals are residents of Assam and had been recruited by ULFA (I) last year.

ULFA-I stands for United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent. It's an armed separatist organisation that operates in the Indian state of Assam. The ULFA was founded in 1979 by Paresh Baruah. The group's goal is to establish a "sovereign socialist Assam".

During the operation, security forces recovered two pistols from the possession of the arrested terrorists, including a .32 pistol and one 9 mm pistol. It is believed that terrorists associated with ULFA (I) have been attempting to cross the border from Myanmar into Indian territory in order to carry out subversive activities.

Throughout this year, there have been numerous instances of arrests and surrenders involving ULFA (I) terrorists in the southern regions of Arunachal Pradesh. These actions have dealt a significant blow to the banned outfit's activities in the area.
