Two more arrests made in Hyderabad teen gang-rape case, total 5 accused identified

Hyderabad: Two teenage boys, accused of allegedly raping a schoolgirl in Hyderabad's Jubilee Hills last week, has been taken into custody, the police said on Saturday.

One accused, identified as Saduddin Malik, was arrested yesterday.

The police said, "In continuation with the arrest of accused Saduddin Malik, two 'Child in Conflict with Law' were apprehended by Jubilee Hills police today; being produced before Juvenile Court for their custody."

One of them is the son of a local leader of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's Telangana Rashtra Samithi party.

Issuing a press release, the deputy commissioner of police said, "So far out of five accused persons identified, three of them are juveniles, till now one accused and two juveniles are apprehended and efforts are continued to apprehend the remaining accused who are absconding."

The 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by five young men when she was returning home after a party in the Jubilee Hills area of Hyderabad on May 28. The police have identified all five based on CCTV footage and the statement of the survivor.

A clip from the security camera footage which has been widely shared on social media showed the girl standing with the suspects outside the pub where she had met them.

The boys had offered to drop her home. Instead, they went to a pastry and coffee shop, where they changed into an Innova. After traveling for a while, she was assaulted inside the parked vehicle in the city. They took turns raping her while the others stood guard outside.

The police initially registered a case of "outraging modesty" based on the girl's father's complaint. It was changed to a rape case later.

Ruling TRS Working President and Telangana minister KT Rama Rao on Friday requested the state's Home Minister, Director General of Police (DGP), and Hyderabad City Police Commissioner to take "immediate and stern action" in the case.
