Mumbai: The Hingoli Municipal Council in Maharashtra has offered LED TVs, refrigerators and washing machines to woo people to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Likewise, incentives were also announced by the Chandrapur civic body earlier.
Hingoli is about 500 km from Mumbai. In the district, about 73 per cent have taken the first dose of the vaccine, and 56 per cent have taken both.
Hingoli Collector Jitendra Papalkar called for an emergency meeting on Wednesday to consider the threat of a possible third wave and instructed the district administration to encourage more people to get the vaccination.
Dr Ajay Kurwade, the municipal council's chief officer, decided to organise a lucky draw on December 27 for city residents who get vaccinated between December 2 and 24.
"It has been decided to give an LED television set as the first prize in the lucky draw, followed by a washing machine, refrigerator, mixer grinder and five other prizes," he said. Those who receive the first dose of vaccine can also participate in the lucky draw.
Thus far, the district has reported 16,059 cases and 395 deaths. 15,659 have recovered thus far. At present, there are five active cases in the district.
